DHL is committed to driving the world of logistics forward with research and insights into future business and society trends, and through the implementation of innovative solutions that create value for society at large.

For the 2016/2017 Formula E season, DHL was one of the first brands in the world, to use Microsoft Hololens to create an interactive and scalable innovation showcase.  The focus for activation centred on bringing-to-life some of the solutions developed by the DHL Innovation Centre in Germany, through a state-of-the-art technology showcase. The immersive Microsoft Hololens experience included:

  • A ‘sneak peak’ inside the Innovation Centre in Bonn, using 180 perspective technology, providing key information, facts & video content about some of the work going on there
  • A Formula E car, which can be ‘dragged’ out of its virtual environment to appear as a life-sized hologram in front of your eyes
  • A life-sized hologram of DHL’s Parcelcopter 3.0 giving users the ability to explore the drone as if it was really there, and even take it on a test flight
  • DHL’s ‘Effibot’ robot hologram, which comes to life in a warehouse environment

We also worked with DHL on introducing key ‘real-life’ innovations into Formula E race days to further strengthen storytelling:

  • An Effibot in the Pitlane supporting operations, becoming a regular feature and star attraction for teams/VIPs/media/fans. Fitted with a 360 camera, Effibot captured unique perspectives of life behind-the-scenes, and with a bespoke MUMM accessory helped transport champagne to the podium!
  • A DHL Camcopter a Phantom IV camera drone, which flew behind-the-scenes to capture interesting perspectives of FE, including a flying lap of the track.

Using this technology, DHL was able to successfully engage customers, media, fans and internal audiences.  The technology has also been adopted internally, as an innovative B2B showcase at trade conferences and other B2B/Internal meetings.
